After the cancellation of the last part of the CSI
franchise, one would wonder if there will ever be more to the franchise in the
future. Surely they’d have to reboot it at some point, right? I do wonder if
CBS will be network that might air a new part of it. Considering how ABC, FOX,
and NBC all rejected the pilot of the original CSI, it could be something that
one of them could wind up trying at one point, provided that they can get the rights
to it. I just don’t know if the franchise is over forever or not.
There are potential problems/issues/reasons why they wouldn’t
do a new CSI show. This includes CBS itself. For one, the franchise isn’t
really that important anymore. It had its time and then ended. CBS now has the
NCIS franchise which could last them a long time even if parts of it start to
end. Some in actual law enforcement have criticized the franchise a lot and may
be glad that it isn’t there anymore since it made their job harder.
More reasons why they wouldn’t want to try new CSI shows are
because it seems that no one really wants any more. If people still cared about
the franchise, then they would have still watched the franchise when it was
still on. Whether it was intense hatred for just the last version (CSI: Cyber)
or some other reason, they just don’t care anymore about it. Plus, trying to
reboot it might end the same may most reboots do: cancellation after just one
season. One could argue that’s why CSI: Cyber failed. They were trying to make
the next generation of the show, yet it failed to resonate with viewers.
How would they try to start this again? Well, if they do try
to reboot the franchise, I would suspect that it would be a TV movie that would
also serve as a pilot. I could imagine them doing a two hour movie sort of like
Immorality that would serve as a potential beginning to a new series. It could
work to start the franchise over again. Or they could try something else. Or it
could be over forever.
I have no idea of the franchise is over or not. It could be,
but it might not. I hope that you enjoyed this random post regardless. I should
be back with other random posts some other time. You’ll keep seeing the regular
cast updates in the meantime. We’ll see in the future if this franchise ever
returns to TV with new episodes or even to the theaters with new movies. For
now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.
