Baby Geniuses Recap of Dan

I’ve done this sort of thing before: writing a recap of a certain character from a movie and then doing a post about it. Since I’ve already done the review of Baby Geniuses, then I might as well get to the recap of the character in the movie that was played by Peter MacNicol.

We begin with his wife talking about her aunt who is speaking in front of a group. Dan thinks that this place is great with his wife saying that her aunt is just stealing his ideas such as Baby Bundy. He doesn’t seem to care that his ideas, such as one on baby prelanguage, are being stolen.

He records his children and swears that he hears his son Whit saying “by a factor of four at least” which he says that he has on tape. He has it on tape. He has you on tape witnessing it. He seeks to show the people at his house so they will believe him.

Dan is not able to convince them that the baby talk was legit speak. His wife believes him, even though he does not convince anyone else. He later records them again. He then hears his daughter say da-da for the first time at Whit’s urging, even though she wanted to quote the Gettysburg Address instead. But, as predicted, he and his wife go nuts at this. Why would she quote the Gettysburg Address anyways? After all, people will little remember what they say that day. Don’t believe me? Read the speech.

Dan has to comfort his son when visions of his still unknown twin fill him with fear and discomfort. Later, he talks to his wife about potentially having another kid, even though she’s not sure that they will be able to conceive one. He talks about expanding their house and taking on more babies to the place that they care for in order to get more money. His wife isn’t sure how he came up with this actually smart idea and he claims that it came from Whit somehow. They then go upstairs to presumably have sex, even though this is only a PG film. Don’t worry. The kids wouldn’t know about this at that point in their lives. They will later.

Later, while the fully clothed married couple are talking to each other in bed, Dan talks about some of his theories regarding baby talk and how they might know all the answers to life, the universe, and everything. Perhaps it is 42? They would lose this ability at a certain age when they cross over. He and his wife are later seen changing their kids’ diapers.

Back after his wife wound up taking Whit out and unknowingly returning with his twin Sly, they notice that his twin has all sorts of energy which makes his sister upset since she knows that this is the wrong twin when she sees him. When the kids are put to bed later, they still don’t know what is wrong with either of their kids in the end.

The next morning, Elena, aunt in-law of Dan, shows up. He admits that there was some translation in prelanguage talk going on. Sly talks to him and says that they have Whit. This confuses Dan as he does not know that this is Sly and not Whit that he’s talking to.

After a lot of craziness with the babies going missing, Dan learns from his daughter, the only one left where she should be, that Whit has a twin brother that was switched at the mall with Elena wanting to take all of the babies from Baby Co to Lichtenstein with Whit convince the humans to take all of the babies there. Dan tells a bored and unconvinced 9-1-1 operator who is convinced that this is a hoax until his wife says that there is a bomb at Baby Co instead.

Arriving at the action later, Dan is told to go to the helicopter pad which leads to the rescue of all of the babies. He is knocked out at some point, having forgotten a lot of what happened. But his memory does return and he learns that they crossed over. He asks his daughter Carrie about it. She doesn’t tell him a thing about the secrets of life with the movie ending here with a montage.

I can’t think of much else to say in this post so I will end it here with this paragraph. He had a good part in the movie that was very important as the main adult protagonist in the movie, even though the kids are more of the focus. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.
